Coventry Democrats go through changes |

COVENTRY — The Democrats in Coventry went through a lot of changes last week.
With major changes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, the week saw the resignation of Councilman Bruce Thompson on Aug. 25, the submission of Harold L. Trafford Jr. to fill Thompson’s place in the upcoming election on Aug. 27, and the resignation of Democratic Town Committee Chairman Kevin McGee on Aug. 29.
Thompson resigned for personal and health reasons, he said in his formal resignation letter, which he handed in to fellow councilmen on Monday night. “I feel I have given 110 percent over the past 22 months, and resigning is not something I wish to do, but at this point it is a must,” he wrote. “With the hours at work and hours spent as a councilman, I must put myself and my family back as number one to regain what I had two years ago.”
When he learned of Thompson’s resignation, McGee said, he was disappointed. “But I understand his health and personal issues are more important than serving on the council,” he said. |
